The Jacksonville Jaguars’ decision to select Travon Walker No. 1 overall in 2022 has often been labeled a mild disappointment, largely because top picks are typically expected to be franchise quarterbacks. However, the probability of landing a true franchise QB, even at No. 1, is far from guaranteed. In Walker, Jacksonville has found a defensive cornerstone, and the organization has made it clear it is not ready to move on.
Jaguars Agree to $110 Million Extension With Travon Walker
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Walker and the Jaguars have agreed to a four-year, $110 million extension that includes $77 million guaranteed, with $50 million fully guaranteed at signing.

The Jaguars had already exercised Walker’s fifth-year option last offseason, signaling long-term intent. Despite dealing with injuries this past season, the team remained confident in his trajectory.
Walker appeared in 14 games, missing time after undergoing midseason surgery for a left wrist injury sustained in a Week 4 win over the San Francisco 49ers. He was later sidelined again with a knee injury suffered during a Week 11 victory against the Los Angeles Chargers.
He finished the season with 3.5 sacks, matching the lowest total of his career. However, the numbers do not fully capture his impact. In 2025, Walker ranked third on the team with 44 pressures despite playing a career-low 585 defensive snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.
Adding further context, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport wrote, “With 27.5 career sacks over four seasons, Travon Walker gets a deal that averages $27.5M. The two sides have been talking for weeks and reached a point Wednesday where both felt comfortable that a deal would happen. It was finalized today.”
Given his consistent pressure production and overall defensive presence, Jacksonville’s decision to double down on Walker reflects both belief in his development and confidence in his long-term value.
