Aaron Rodgers has been one of the most productive quarterbacks in NFL history, and at 42, he showed he still has plenty left in the tank. In 16 starts during the 2025 season, Rodgers led Pittsburgh to a 10-6 record, completing 65.7% of his passes for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions. He did it all on one of the most team-friendly contracts in the league.

Rodgers played on a 2025 deal worth $13.65 million, a figure that looks increasingly like a bargain now that both sides are back at the negotiating table. Following the 2026 NFL Draft, the Steelers placed a UFA tender on Rodgers worth roughly $15 million, a 10% raise on his prior salary, but that number is widely viewed as a floor, not a ceiling.

Aaron Rodgers Expected to Sign New Deal With Pittsburgh Steelers

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport confirmed no contract is currently in place between Rodgers and the Steelers, while noting that finality to his situation is coming soon, possibly this weekend or early next week.

The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo said on FS1’s The Herd that Rodgers played on “a tremendous discount” last year and suggested his new deal should be closer to market value, noting that Malik Willis is currently earning $22 million per year.

According to sources, Rodgers is expected to sign for more than the $15 million tender figure, with his new deal likely falling somewhere in the $20 million range. PFT’s Mike Florio projected a floor that starts with a “2,” with incentives potentially pushing the total beyond $25 million.

The Steelers’ quarterback room without Rodgers consists of Mason Rudolph, 2025 sixth-round pick Will Howard, and 2026 third-round pick Drew Allar, none of whom have earned the franchise’s trust as a starter. Both sides need a deal done before Pittsburgh’s OTAs kick off on May 18.
